B. Petersen: SatNOGS 3409 - VE9EX-2

Introduction

  1. The purpose of this page is to document the changes to my SatNOGS ground station, 3409.
  2. The current parameter settings may be changed.
  3. If you have a suggestion for a change, hardware or software, please consider emailing me using b.petersen@ieee.org.

I created a SatNOGS ground station. See:

On December 31, 2023, in a Libre Space forum, I documented my process to put an SDRPlay RSP1A online:

System Versions

These are the system changes. The system versions are sequentially labelled, starting with S01, the oldest.
System Version UTC Date yyyy-mm-dd UTC Time hhmm Hardware Version Gain (dB) Bandwidth (Hz) Sampling Rate (sps) Minimum Horizon (degrees) Status Comments
S01 2023-12-31 2200 H01 48 600e3 2e6 14 Testing

Hardware

These are the hardware versions. The hardware versions are sequentially labelled, starting with H01, the oldest.
Version Antenna Antenna Location Feedline Receiver
H01 A1 Attic peak 1 Feedline A: antenna-SO-239, PL-259--75-feet-RG-8X--PL-259, SO-239--to--SMA-M SDRPlay

Antenna Versions

Version Manufacturer Model Number Low Frequency SatNOGS Setting Chosen (Hz) High Frequency SatNOGS Setting Chosen (Hz) Connector Notes
A1 Diamond X-50A 400 000 000. 500 000 000. SO-239 Vertical antenna used for UHF

Receiver

The SDRPlay has an SMA female connector.

Computer

It is a RaspBerry Pi 4 with 8 GiB or RAM and a 32 GiB SD card. This ground station was created on 2023-12-28.

Comparisons

Comparisons of my observations are here.
Satellite Maximum Elevation (degrees) System Observation Number
LUSAT 40 VE9EX-2 S01 8806559
LUSAT 40 VE9EX-1 S12 8797916

Future Work

  1. An azimuth-elevation rotator with directional signals would help.
  2. Putting the antennas outside would help.
  3. Adjusting the SDRPlay parameters to the narrowest useable bandwidth may help.
  4. A pre-amp may be considered, if the feedlines are long.
